The Communities of Brize Norton and Carterton

You are here: Community > University of the Third Age (U3A)

U3A stands for the University of the Third Age, which is a self-help organisation for people no longer in full time employment providing educational, creative and leisure opportunities in a friendly environment.

Carterton U3A was conceived in 2008 when a small Steering committee was formed under the Acting Chairmanship of Maxine Crossland who was Town Mayor at the time. From those early beginnings we now have over 100 members as at May 2009.

This new organisation gives people of Carterton Town and surrounding areas the chance to meet in friendly groups to pursue a variety of activities, some that they were already familiar with and other completely different areas to explore.

Our monthly meeting is held in the main hall at the New Carterton Community Centre at Shilton Park on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 2:00pm. An interesting and informative talk or presentation is arranged for each main meeting covering a variety of topics. Updates are given on the progress of the various special interest groups.
